The Lesotho Employers Umbrella Fund is one of Lesotho’s most significant commercial umbrella funds by assets under management, participating employers and retirement fund members.
The Lesotho Employers Umbrella Fund offers five investment portfolios to retirement fund members to save for retirement. Members can choose the investment portfolio that best suits their retirement needs depending on their life stage and how long they still have to save before retirement age. Their risk appetiteis determined by how long they have in the market to make up for market losses and maximise returns before retiring.
There are five investment portfolios that retirement fund members can choose from.
Aggressive portfolio
This is appropriate for members in their twenties who have a long-term investment strategy with a lot of time in the market before retirement age. They typically have 20 years or more to weather the market’s ups and downs and achieve maximum returns.
This risk profile has more exposure to global and local shares, typically between 55% to 75%, with target returns of CPI (inflation) +5% over the long term but may fall short of this target over the short to medium term of three to five years.
Investment returns may even be negative over short periods of as long as a year, depending on what is happening in the markets; however, over the long term, shares have proven to outperform any other asset class.
-
High growth potential
-
Higher exposure to market movements
-
Ideal for long-term investors
Moderate Aggressive portfolio
This portfolio is appropriate for members in their thirties with a long-term investment strategy with 20 years in the market to make up for potential losses and maximise returns before retiring.
Moderately aggressive portfolios are often called balanced portfolios because the assets are mainly invested in fixed-income securities such as bonds and company shares.
-
Strong growth focus
-
Balanced risk and reward
-
Suitable for medium to long-term goals
Moderate portfolio
This portfolio is appropriate for members in their forties with a fifteen-year time horizon in the market before retiring.
Moderate portfolios have less exposure to company shares, between 27.5% and 37.5%. Investment returns are likely to fluctuate less than the aggressive risk profile, and even though returns may be negative over periods of up to a year, negative returns for extended periods will occur less frequently with less exposure to shares than the aggressive risk profile.
Return targets will be less than the aggressive profile with CPI (inflation) + 3% over the medium term but could fall short of this over the shorter period of three years.
-
Balanced growth and stability
-
Diversified investment approach
-
Suitable for most investors
